The Supreme Military Council will meet until August 4th to discuss appointments and promotion in the Armed Forces. The Council will convene to evaluate approximate 134 generals and admirals.

This will be Chief of General Staff İlker Başbuğ’s final attendance of a Supreme Military Council. Başbuğ goes into retirement on August 30th, 2010 and General Işık Koşaner, who has served as Armed Forces Commander for three years, is anticipated to take his place as the Turkish Armed Forces 27th Chief of General Staff.

Meanwhile, there is much speculation as to whether or not the 11 generals and admirals listed as suspects in the Balyoz case indictment will still be considered for their scheduled promotions.
