The Republican People’s Party (CHP)’s Ankara Deputy Eşref Erdem resigned from the party yesterday, in an incident which was triggered by an article released by SABAH, in which Erdem expresses his plans to vote ‘yes’ on the September 12th constitutional amendment referendum. When his fellow party members responded by applying to the board for Erdem to be subject to disciplinary action, requesting he be suspended from the party, Erdem responded by offering his resignation yesterday as well as also issuing harsh allegations against the party’s Secretary General Önder Sav. According to claims by Erdem, the switch in party leadership from Baykal to Kılıçdaroğlu was a result of careful planning and premeditation.

“OUTSIDE CONSPIRACY”

Referring to former CHP leader Baykal’s tumultuous exit from party leadership following the release of controversial footage, Erdem states; “Supposedly the Secretary General was a little saddened by the cassette incident. The entire party administration was saying the same thing… ‘That this was a conspiracy arranged from the outside.’ All of a sudden the party experienced an internal rearrangement and within ten days time, Baykal had willingly resigned as party chairman.

SECRET MEETINGS

“During secret meetings held behind close doors in other homes, the date that Kılıçdaroğlu would take over was established as well as a list of party assembly members, which was prepared despite Baykal remaining in power at the time. It was at this time that what was to become the Party Assembly was premeditatedly decided upon.”
