A non-woven fiber facility costing 3 million euros opened Monday in Turkey’s southern province of Kahramanmaraş, providing jobs for 25 employees.

Teknomelt, Kahramanmaraş’s first specialized textile facility has a production capacity of 60 tons a month, said General Manager and owner Ziya Gümüser.

“We are the second company in the field in Turkey. Investment in textiles in Turkey is big, yet we still have to broaden the product range,” he said, adding that their priorities in exports are the United States and European markets.

The company foresees an initial export volume of 1.5 million euros a year.

Non-woven fabrics, broadly defined as sheet or web structures bonded together by mechanically, thermally or chemically entwining fiber or filaments, are widely used in numerous applications, including hygienic goods, medical gowns, coffee and tea bags, filtering equipments and geo-textiles.

“Oil soaking [non-woven fabric] is being used in the cleaning efforts following the [BP] oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico,” said Gümüser.

Teknomelt’s facility sits on 15,000 square meters in the Kahramanmaraş industrial zone and includes an indoor area of 2,000 square meters.
