It was a race to the finish line for the Kazancı brothers in the electricity distribution tenders held for the Boğaziçi and Gediz distribution firms. The state has added 4.9 billion dollars to its register as 75% of the nation’s electricity goes private.
Brothers Mehmet and Cemil Kazancı fought to the end to acquire the tenders for BEDAŞ, which distributes electricity throughout the European side of Istanbul and Gediz which covers Izmir and Manisa. It was Mehmet Kazancı, having joined forces with Mehmet Emin Karamehmet, who came out the victorious sibling in both tenders.
THAT’S FATE
Having walked away from Aksa energy, the company he was responsible for founding just a month ago, Mehmet Kazancı referred to the rivalry against his former firm as being simply, “a strange coincidence. That’s fate,” Kazancı states.
Kazancı will be paying the state four billion, 910 million dollars for both tenders.
