The news Turkey’s daily recently revealed that the new National Security Policy Document would no longer include Greece’s 12 mile clause for territorial waters as a cause for war, has also been picked up by Athens and broadcasted widely as headline news.
The news published by that Greece’s increasing their territorial waters to 12 miles, will no longer be considered a cause for war in the redrafted National Security Policy Document has rattled Athens. Ethnos newspaper states; “Turkey is altering strategy in order to erase all problems with neighboring nations.”
An article released earlier this week by on the drafting of the new National Security Policy Document, has brought echoes in both the Greek and Russian press, which state; “Ankara now sees their former enemies, Russia, Greece, Iran and Iraq as new partners.”
Although Greek government authorities have not acknowledged the news released by that the longstanding 12 mile increase of territorial waters on behalf of Greece would no longer be considered a cause for war, the Greek press has widely spread the news in headlines throughout the press.
Sources from the Greek Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Defense have remarked on the news, stating; “The government does not make assessments on news or allegations released in the press. However, if this news is indeed verified, then it will be a positive step taken for Turkish-Greek relations.”
