| Turkey’s main opposition Republican People’s Party leader, Deniz Baykal claimed that the Turkish prime minister’s name was also included in the Deniz Feneri charity corruption case in Germany, Hurriyet daily reported on Saturday.
According to the indictment, one of the two detainees appearing before the German court said he had given a sum of money to an individual, who he named as Mehmet Gurhan, to be delivered to Turkey’s Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, Baykal said, adding that Gurhan also confirms that he received these funds.
“I do not know if Gurhan gave this money to the premier or not… He may or may not have given it… But in any case, collecting money in order to be handed over to the prime minister is very important… This point must be made clear immediately,” Baykal said.
Baykal also said that it was obvious that the Turkish government was related with the case and that they would bring the issue to parliament for debate.
A legal case was filed against the charity, Deniz Feneri, based in Germany on the charges of making illegal financial transactions to conservative media organs in Turkey, of fraud and money laundering.
