| HURRIYET --GOLDENE VICTORIA AWARD TO AYDIN DOGAN Dogan Holding's chairman Aydin Dogan was presented with Goldene Victoria Award by the Association of German Magazine Publishers thanks to his activities on the improvement of Turkish-German relations and integration. Dogan will receive his award from German Interior Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble at a ceremony to be held in Berlin on November 17.
--LET US GO TO SOUTHEAST HAND IN HAND, DEPUTY PREMIER Deputy Premier Cemil Cicek called on political leaders to go to Turkey's southeast hand in hand in order to show people that they stood by the public all together. "Such a move would encourage everybody," Cicek said.
--PRIME MINISTER'S REPLY ON PUMP RIFLE Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan commented on the incident in which a citizen fired his pump rifle on demonstrators, who wanted to march to Istanbul's Taksim Square on Sunday: "Patience is needed, but until when?"
MILLIYET --PRICE INCREASE WAS HIGH FOR GOVERNMENT TOO Energy and Natural Resources Minister Hilmi Guler said that they were selling the natural gas without adding any profit on it. He said, "22.5 percent price increase is high for us too. But this is the minimum level." Guler added that when the prices started to drop, they would also drop the price of natural gas as of the first quarter of 2009.
--WESTERN WORLD DISCOVERS TURKISH PAINTERS Paintings of Turkish painters were on the auction held by Christie's. A painting of Erol Akyavas was sold for $122,500; and another painting by Burhan Dogancay was sold for $110,500.
SABAH --'CASE' IS THE REASON OF STAGNATION According to the report of the EU, the economic stagnation in Turkey was caused by political tension. EU Commission's report said that Turkish economy, which entered into a stagnation period due to closure case opened against Justice and Development Party (AKP), could be recovered as of 2010. The report stressed that Turkish economy was more ready against global crisis when compared to previous years.
--RAMBO SHOW FOR PRIME MINISTER General Staff will brief Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and six ministers about counter terrorism in Egirdir town of southwestern province of Isparta today. Commandos, who will undertake mission in southeastern Anatolia region, will display their talents to prime minister.
VATAN --INFLATION TARGET EXCEEDED Inflation increased by 2.6 percent in consumer prices and 0.57 in producer prices in October 2008. The annual inflation was determined as 11.99 in consumer prices index and 13.29 percent in producer prices index in the same period. The year-end inflation target, which was revised 3 times by Turkey's Central Bank, was around 11.1 percent. With the latest figures, this last target was also exceeded two months before the end of the year.
--AYDIN DOGAN GETS TURKISH-GERMAN FRIENDSHIP AWARD Aydin Dogan, chairman of Dogan Holding, was given the "Goldene Victoria Award" thanks to his contributions to the friendship between Turkish and German people and to the integration of the Turkish community in Germany. The award, which is given by the Association of German Magazine Publishers, was previously presented to experienced politicians such as Helmut Kohl and Germany's leading businessmen.
CUMHURIYET --PATIENCE, BUT TILL WHEN?, PM ERDOGAN Commenting on a citizen's reacting to PKK's demonstration in Istanbul with his rifle, Premier Tayyip Erdogan said that he advised the citizens to stay calm. "I advise patience. But I am also concerned about when this patience will end. The citizen, whose life is threatened, will defend himself if he has the chance," Erdogan said.
RADIKAL --ERDOGAN RECOGNIZED CRISIS Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said, "we attach importance not to reflect the possible effects of crisis especially to poor people. Unemployment rate did not drop, but it is a success that it did not increase as well."
--NATURAL GAS IS CHEAP Energy Minister Hilmi Guler said, "the price increase in natural gas is high for us too. We discussed it (the rate of price increase) for 15 days. The reason of the increase is USD and oil prices. Turkey is still among the countries which use natural gas cheap."
--INFLATION 2.6 PERCENT Consumer prices index increased 2.6 percent in October due to price increase in food and clothing. Thus, consumer prices index reached the highest figure of the last six years. Producer prices increased 0.57 percent.
YENI SAFAK --10 PERCENT PRICE INCREASE IN ELECTRICITY ON WAY 22.5 percent price increase in natural gas will be reflected to electricity as 10 percent as of January 1. 48 percent of electricity of Turkey is produced with natural gas.
--PRICE INCREASE HIGH FOR EVERYBODY Energy Minister Hilmi Guler said that 22.5 percent price increase in natural gas was high for him too. Guler, replying to criticisms, said, "we have been discussing it for 15 days, but we had to increase the price."
--DOGAN MEDIA ON HEADQUARTERS Chief of General Staff Gen. Ilker Basbug met with chairman Aydin Dogan of Dogan media group. Gen. Basbug asked for the support of media to fight against terrorism.
