| HURRIYET -- CITIZENS HAVE MONEY The government made public a new package worth of 4 billion TL which will encourage new investments, increase employment and extend loan support to small and medium sized enterprises. Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said, "we increased average salary of civil servants by 19.7 percent in 2008. Thus, citizens have money in their pockets." Erdogan noted that 81 provinces would be divided into four zones, investments in 12 sectors would be supported, 500,000 people would be employed, and 10 billion TL of resources would be created for small and medium sized enterprises with the new incentives system. Chemistry, petroleum, energy, automotive, communication, transportation, medical appliances and equipment, electronic, medicine, aviation, machinery and mining are the 12 sectors which were chosen to be supported within the scope of the new incentives package.
-- BOMBARDMENT ON PKK TERRORISTS Security forces started a wide operation, backed by air forces, to neutralize a group of PKK terrorists in Bestler Dereler region of the southeastern province of Sirnak. One soldier, who stepped on a land mine planted by terrorists, was killed, and three others were injured during the operation. Injured soldiers were taken to Sirnak military hospital.
MILLIYET -- MOST AMBITIOUS PACKAGE Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan made public the most comprehensive package of the history of the Republic of Turkey. Under the package, Turkey was divided into four groups as the most developed, developed, less developed and under-developed regions. Eastern and southeastern regions became the most advantageous regions for new projects and investments.
-- ERGENEKON IN GATA Under the 13th wave of the Ergenekon probe, police detained 17 people in Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir on the ground of an investigation into the ammunition found in Poyrazkoy. Three female civil servants, two from the Gulhane Military Medical Academy (GATA) and one from the Air Forces Command, were among the detainees. Meanwhile, retired lecturer Professor Erol Manisali was released by court due to some health problems. He underwent a surgery in Istanbul. Another arrestee, Professor Fatih Hilmioglu, former rector of the Inonu University, was also hospitalized after having facial palsy.
SABAH -- COLONEL WAVE IN ERGENEKON CASE; 20 DETAINED 16 of the 20 people, who were detained in the 13th wave of Ergenekon operation, are soldiers. It was claimed that the detained soldiers had ties to retired major Levent Pektas who was earlier arrested in Poyrazkoy operation. Meanwhile, Prof. Erol Manisali, who was in prison within the scope of Ergenekon case, was discharged from prison after he underwent a surgery.
-- THREE INTERVENTION TO CRISIS Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan opened the package which people have been waiting for the struggle against global economic crisis. With "investment, employment, loan" precautions, the package aims to provide job for 500,000 people and financially support 12 sectors.
VATAN -- NO TAX FOR INVESTMENTS IN EASTERN TURKEY Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan announced Turkey's new incentives system: Those who will invest in eastern Turkey will be exempt of social security premiums for seven years. The state will repay 5 percent of the loan interests. Some 500 thousand people will be employed.
-- END OF ECEVIT ERA Rahsan Ecevit, widow of former prime minister Bulent Ecevit, resigned from the Democratic Left Party (DSP). Ecevit was the founder member of the DSP. Deputies Emrehan Halici ve Mucahit Pehlivan also resigned from the political party.
CUMHURIYET -- ARMY OFFICERS DETAINED More than ten people including several military officers were detained under the Ergenekon probe upon directives of the Chief Prosecutor's Office in Istanbul. Police searched houses of two officers with the Naval Forces Command. Three female civil servants, two from the Gulhane Military Medical Academy (GATA) and one from the Air Forces Command, were among the detainees.
-- MANISALI UNDERGOES SURGERY Professor Erol Manisali, one of writers of the Cumhuriyet daily who was arrested under the Ergenekon probe, underwent surgery and cancerous lumps in his chest were removed. The High Criminal Court on duty accepted a request by his lawyer and released him from prison. Meanwhile, Professor Fatih Hilmioglu, former rector of the Inonu University, was also hospitalized after having facial palsy in jail.
RADIKAL -- ERGENEKON AGAIN Three women civil servants, who work in Gulhane Military Medical Academy in Ankara, were detained within the scope of Ergenekon probe. Also police searched houses of a lawyer and two colonels.
-- RESPONSE TO TURK WITH 'WEAPON' Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan replied the call of Democratic Society Party (DTP) leader Ahmet Turk to give up arms: "it is the terrorist organization which has to give up arms. Security forces never lay down arms."
-- DSP NOW WITHOUT ECEVIT Rahsan Ecevit, founder chairwoman of Democratic Left Party (DSP), resigned from her party by saying, "there is no loyalty to the line of Ecevit." Deputies Emrehan Halici, Mucahit Pehlivan and Recai Birgun also resigned from the party following Ecevit's resignation.
YENI SAFAK -- ECEVITS ERA ENDS Rahsan Ecevit, wife of late premier Bulent Ecevit and founder of Democratic Left Party (DSP), resigned from her party. While Ecevits era has ended in DSP, deputies Emrehan Halici, Mucahit Pehlivan and Recai Birgun resigned from the party too.
-- ANTI-CRISIS PACKAGE LIKE REVOLUTION Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan made public the new employment and incentives package worth of $2 billion. The package aims to financially support small and medium sized enterprises and to decrease the differences between regional developments. Under the package, 500,000 people will be employed.
