Turkish Airlines has responded to the demand of 3,546 passengers wanting to return home from Umrah early in order to vote for the referendum. The demand is such that a remaining 1,384 are unable to return, despite wanting to. Turkish Airlines is satisfying the demand by adding extra flights and using larger planes in order to help those that traveled to the holy land of Umrah during the Ramadan holiday return to put in their vote on the upcoming constitutional amendment referendum.
Thousands of others whom had wanted to travel to Umrah during Ramadan have decided to postpone their trips in order to be in Turkey for this weekend’s voting. Turkish Airlines decided to accommodate passengers’ requests when a number of customers called in wanting to switch to earlier return flights. According to Turkish Airlines, there are presently 22,339 people in Umrah. Upon the airline’s estimations, 10,137 people will be returning between the dates of September 9th and 12th. Out of the 12,202 people scheduled to return to Turkey after the referendum vote, 4,864 passengers requested to change their tickets to earlier flights. In return, Turkish Airlines decided to add 16 additional flights to accommodate passenger requests.
