Beşiktaş unveiled Tuesday its latest big-transfer move – Guti from Real Madrid – with a ceremony in front of 15,000 supporters at İnönü Stadium in Istanbul.
On Sunday, Guti, or Jose Maria Gutierez Fernandez, announced that he was leaving Real Madrid after 15 years with the Spanish giant. During that press conference, Guti also admitted that he was considering an offer from Beşiktaş.
Tuesday saw Guti sign a two-year contract with Beşiktaş and wear the black and white jersey for the first time.
“Thank you all for being here,” said Guti. “I’m honored to be playing for Beşiktaş. I am so happy to be here in Istanbul, so happy that I will play for Beşiktaş.”
“Together, we will win the Turkish title,” vowed Guti. “Next year, we will be in the Champions League.”
The Spaniard, who won five La Liga and three Champions League titles with Real Madrid, is the most decorated player to come play in Turkey, according to Beşiktaş chairman Yıldırım Demirören.
“Guti played for and captained the best club in the world,” said Demirören. “He has the single most successful career among players coming to Turkey.”
